having your art be in direct contact with the glass/plastic is a *really* bad idea, especially if it is an original painting or a photograph...normal atmospheric moisture can condense and cause the art to be glued to the glass permanently.
That's why real framers use mats or spacers- the art should NEVER touch the glass/plastic.
