Malaysian Catholic newspaper continues legal fight to use Allah

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Apr 29, 2008 / 06:49 am (CNA).- A Catholic newspaper in Malaysia on Friday continued its fight to use the word Allah to signify God in its newspapers. The newspaper has appealed to the High Court to hear its case, Agence France Presse reports.

On Friday before an audience of two hundred, including Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Murphy Pakiam, High Court Judge Lau Bee Lan decided that the arguments from both sides would be heard on Tuesday to determine if the case should proceed.

In January the Catholic weekly The Herald almost had its publishing license revoked because it used the word Allah in its Malay section. Allah is both the Malay and the Arabic word for God. Authorities warned the paper not to use the word again in the future.

The Malaysian Cabinet last year ruled that the word could be used only by Muslims. The internal security minister also issued a ban on its use in a non-Muslim context.

When the papers license was renewed in January, the publishers assumed they could use Allah. They are seeking to ensure their right to use the word even after the permit expires in October.

"We are asking the court to say the decision was wrong and quash it and declare that The Herald can use the word 'Allah' in its publication," the paper's lead counsel, Porres Royan, told reporters after an initial hearing at the Kuala Lumpur High Court last Friday.

"If we don't comply with the decision beyond October, the government can refuse to renew our publication permit based on the earlier order," said Annou Xavier, a lawyer for the paper.

Many Malaysians are concerned about what they see as a growing Islamization of the country.

The Herald circulates among the countrys 850,000 Catholics, with articles written in English, Chinese, Tamil, and Malay.

Even the Saudi Arabians Mullah's are worried that they are losing so many Muslims in Africa lol It was aired on their t.v for the world to see. If u base your faith on numbers then join Christianity as that is the highest population in the world. Hinduism is fast coming up to Islam as like Muslims they breed in their countries too :)

Look up fastest growing religions in wikipedia and u will see in Australia Buddhism is the fastest. In Africa Christianity is the fastest. In Islamic countries where the birth rate is high Islam is fast there. Get your lies correct before you go making up lies. No body beleives u. Islam is actually losing many converts.

The Bible - New Testament and Old Testament give God's standard of marraige. God did not create the world with multiple wives. Man got greedy and lusted after women and changed the laws. Allah means THE GOD u idiot! By your own argument if u state that in Aramaic that god is called Ellah, then your Quran is again wrong. The Bible clearly states gods name as Yahweh Jehovah or YHWH which your Quran again fails to state even 1 of these names. I think all Muslims understand that following the prophet muhammad who raped children, murdered and robbed is wrong. All Muslims know that Islam is wrong, but its a cultural thing where you just follow evil.

Actually - even if you check in the Wikipedia...

God in Aramaic is actually Ellah. Ellah means- God. This is really close to Allah. And based on christians, the last word of Jesus on the cross was "Ilahi" . In arabic it is meant "My God " . Christian scholar knows this . But they dont want to admit it. But in Wikipedia , it is stated there. I think now, Christians know that the way Muslim call God is correct- & should be Allah.. Haha Gotcha. Again.
