  • Where's the original version without the commentary? is it no longer available? I've been searching...anybody know?

  • I never saw it on here, but someone else who was searching for it told me they had been told that it was removed due to copyright.

  • Is this commentary from a special release of the video? Is it available on Amazon?

  • Not a special release. It's included on the normal release. Yes, it's available on Amazon. Thanks for asking!

  • terrible cherry on the cake for Stritch during this nightmare must have been that it was being FILMED!

    jeez

how much can one person put up with?

    talk about pressure

she nailed it though - great show of tenacity on her part

  • Poor Elaine. Can there be anything more devastating for an artist to be a singing a Sondheim song in front of Sondheim himself, and watch him holding his head in his hands? Still, she slogged through it with class, dignity and consummate professionalism. What a lady. There is a REAL artist.

  • What is the name of this documentary?

  • Thomas Z. Shepard is a snotty prick.

  • Hmm she appears to be drunk during that first session--and throwing lit cigarette butts on the floor during the recording. Classy.

  • When you're a legend you're allowed to be a bit of a bitch. Notice she was a bitch to NO ONE but herself. The greatest artists are their own worst critics.

  • Who's who in the video? Sondheim's so young I can't recognize him. He's the one in the black turtleneck, right? Who's the guy in the tan shirt (the young one standing up, not the guy sitting down)—the director? The sound engineer?

  • cause we're all getting kind of punchy. the sound bites out of this guy in this movie are so over the top. it's funny but you need a drink to watch it.

  • Elaine Stritch was evidently no day at the beach during this era. Among other things, she was a notorious drinker. Read Ted Chapin's book on "Follies" to get an idea of what she really was like as a counter to her "At Liberty" whitewashed reminiscences.

  • even legends have to endure criticism. good for elaine for not letting this experience destroy her.

  • You know who failed here? Tom and Steve for not giving more examples of what they needed that night. Especially Tom.

  • She is divine...
