Quick clip of my new Stir Crazy coffee roaster. I'm still fooling around with roasting time, but for the most part have gotten great results.

That would be great. I'm also thining about JB welding the washer that sits just under the lid, I think that would work out pretty much the same.

Hi again, did you replace the plastic shaft? My metal one has a lot of slop and keeps changing direction instead of stirring (moreso the bigger of a roast I try and do). What did you do to snug everything up?

I did and had the same problem. I used a 1/2" copper pipe cap just like the one you see covering the top of the shaft in the video. The cap is an exact fit through the old shaft opening that goes into the base of the stir crazy. All you have to do is drill a hole in the center of the cap, bolt it onto the shaft so that it acts like a spacer through the opening and bolt your stir rod onto that and no more slop!

Hey man, nice vid! I'd like to see a batch where the camera is close enough to hear first and second crack. Mind telling where you bought the stir crazy and lid, and how much they cost?

Hey Thanks! The Stir crazy I got at a thrift store for $7.00. The lid is actually the top of a Turbo Oven convection oven. I got that on ebay for $70.00 ,that one I had to think about before spending the money. Before building this roaster, I had been using the Poppery 2 method and wasn't sure I wanted to spend that kind of money. I'm glad I did, the poppery worked but I think roasted just a little too fast. I get a much better cup of coffee from this guy.

If you're interested in building one,sometimes Newegg offers refurb ovens for ~ $50.00 shipped, they typically sell pretty quickly so you'll have-to keep your eyes open!
