You can play Master Audio HD and other HD codex WITHOUT an hdmi cable by using a blue ray player that has analogue out connections and plugging those cables into a receiver with analogue in capabilities. By doing this, the blue ray player is doing the HD decoding and the receiver is simply acting as an amplifier. This is a great way to get HD sound with your older receiver that doesn't have hdmi inputs.
