I was kayaking north along the west side of San Juan Island on Friday, June 17th. Around 10am I encountered a long, spread-out line of 15+ orcas. The line started with two big males (one of them I'm pretty sure was J1 "Ruffles"), and the procession included a baby calf (I'm guessing it was the newborn J45) who breached twice! I watched all this from a respectful distance (200+ yards away), as the pod made its way south over the next 30-40 minutes. After they'd moved out of sight, I began paddling north again towards Lime Kiln Park, thinking my encounter with them was over. Then I heard more orcas spouts coming from somewhere ahead of me. I couldn't see where they were, so I stopped paddling to see if they'd pop up somewhere nearby, when all of a sudden...
Wonder if this was pod I saw on Saturday just off Turn Point on Stuart Island?
