You have to understand that the people there only has one source of information : the State.

They are misinformed about everything and the propaganda describes Kim Jong Il as a great leader.

They believe that all the rest of the world is a poor wasteland controled by "capitalists" and that they are the most advanced nation. Kim Jong Il is some sort of God for them, and his death is considered as a great loss.

For them, he is some sort of God on Earth.
