On February 26th, 2009, Protestors demanding an end to drug prohibition caused an uproar outside Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's roundtable discussion on gang violence in downtown Vancouver yesterday.

Over fifty vocal critics gathered to call for an end to the drug war, which they see as the real cause of the gang violence, and to protest the Prime Minister's proposed anti-drug legislation that includes mandatory minimum sentences for drug crimes.

The activists, including Green Party candidate Jodie Emery and her husband, BC Marijuana Party President Marc Emery (both editors of Cannabis Culture Magazine), held placards reading "Prohibition Funds Organized Crime" and "No Prison For Pot" and shouted loudly at the Library Square building where Harper met with law enforcement officials.

The protest was covered by several television stations and newspapers, including the CBC, Global, CTV and The Province.

  • @JodieEmery jodie... seriously?

  • pothead music is really terrible in my opinion lol, the only band that is half ways decent in your list is led zepplin. The other people in your list may have smoked pot once, when they were young. but they all seem to have stopped hmm... and actually, now that i think of it, their careers took off immediately after they stopped... I think you might be confusing potheads with someone who has tried it. and im not talking out of my rear, I too have tried pot, and still stand by my statement.

  • @JodieEmery And that's only a partial list - it goes on and on and on. Tell me ONE great contribution to humanity that was done by someone who NEVER smoked pot.

  • @bdotalex Are you kidding? EVERY SINGLE great musician and band has smoked pot (Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Led Zeppellin, Tom Petty, etc.). Most top filmmakers and artists and actors and actresses smoke pot. Steve Jobs (created Apple Computers) smoked pot. Bill Gates (Microsoft) smoked pot. Ted Turner (started CNN) smoked pot. Every prime philosopher and scientist has smoked pot. If you think humanity would be better off without those people and their contributions, you're crazy or a bumpkin.

  • well, the fact of the matter is, potheads dont contribute to society nearly as much as sober people. Name one thing that a pot head actually did to help humanity lol... The only question is, was it the useless people, or the pot that came first? Because if they were all naturally useless anyway, well i guess we might as well let them do whatever they want. But since we don't know if its the drugs causing it, id say its better to be safe than sorry until we know.

  • GET RID OF ATIQUATED GOVERNMENT

  • @ihypno I think i would still smoke marijuana ....but i really dont have much of a life anyway

  • @steveo9001 yea know.. that might have a slight effect on us potheads..the cops might even start to feel like the work they are doing is two drops in the bucket haha well that.. and...along with the mass murders your talking about..now thats what i call a war on drugs

  • Since when is a cops life more important than a Canadian citizen's? 4 years for a drive by, but if I punch a cop it's 14 years? That makes no fucking sense at all.

  • i say we give the death penalty to people caught with 0.001 grams of marijuana
