Open and first break of the 10 PM Newscast.
Graphics nerds (myself included) will be quick to note the involvement of TVbD in the station's image at the time, and specifically John Christopher Burns of JCBD. One of my favorite series of designs from this period from any station in the country, actually.
I miss Ron Stone. He and Doug Johnson were magic together. And that salutation that Ron used to say at the beginning of every broadcast, "Hello, neighbors", will resonate in my memory for as long as I live. It ranks up there with "That's the way it was" as a newscasting classic. He was the consumate professional, yet so down to earth. Ron was a warm and genuinely friendly man with a good heart and a great sense of humor. I'll always cherish "The Eyes of Texas". Rest in peace, Mr. Stone.

@parachuteclubbed I've seen all of KPRC's logos from 1960 on up and this one was the best, in my opinion-although the 1969-76 "Big 2" version has a goofy charm to it.
I recall the big deal Channel 2 made when they adopted this logo. They called it "New 2" in promos. BTW, the current logo holds the record for KPRC logos-it's been used since 1995.

@molonlave2010: I liked the 2 here better, but always preferred the previous opening theme music. The branding switchover for the 2 logo (and newsroom) was the day after Labor Day 1985, just following the Jerry Lewis telethon.

The graphics are really sharp. And the music is really lively, too.

It sure is better, it's an up scale shooping plazza.
