The composer plays on Duo-Art piano roll. This is the rare "Audiographic" version that has his own annotations describing his life and the music, both in text at the start and as a running commentary throughout the music - a typically florid 1920s-style descriptive storyline!

Note that the camera's auto-gain has dampened the dynamics and amplified the motor noise at the start!

  • Where did you find this?!! I've had no luck. finding more in my recent searches nor am I very good at the process.

  • @vizajangli The roll came in a collection, originally part of the stock of Harrods' roll library in London, source of a lot of originally-unsaleable rolls that stayed on the shelf until the library closed in the 1960s, by which time collectors wanted the obscure material!

  • What a thrill to discover this. Anis was my great uncle, beloved and an inspiration to me. I ve been looking for recordings made by him of any kind for a long time. Those that the family had have been lost as far as I know.

  • @vizajangli Thanks for letting me know! He made a few more rolls: another of his compositions, Serenade, three Chopin waltzes (Op 64 Nos 1 & 2, and Op 70 No 3), plus the rather obscure "Zarmi" by Alexander Steinert - the latter was not originally issued but the master was located in the 1960s, when a few copies were made. I have the this, plus one of the Chopin, and will try to dig them out.

  • @vizajangli HI: Saw your comments on this video and want to say that I'm also Anis Fuleihan's great niece--and that he too wrote letters to my mother, which i love. Who are you? and have you done genealogical work on the Fuleihans? linda Jacobs

  • This is incredible. He is also my great-uncle and wrote wonderful letter to my mother as well!

  • So, how about the Chopin pieces you think you may have been played by Anis?

I would really love to see the text if possible in this piece. He was quite the wit. I'm reading many letters form him right now to my mom. He was humorous and quick with words, similar to his notes in composing. I'm trying to collect all I can.

  • I would love to hear anything else you have! Though there's plenty of sheet music available, actual recordings seem very scarce. I had thought about contacting the universities where he worked look for live works. Any other suggestions?

I wasn't able to see the text on this piece which is disappointing.

  • Thanks for sharing! , great to see another AudioGraphic roll on here :)
