This game was also released on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and it is known only as Zombies in PAL (mainly Europe) regions. The PAL version also features more censorship than the American version, such as the replacement of a character with a chainsaw into a lumberjack. You might wonder why would there be a lumberjack or a chainsaw-wielding character in a game about zombies. The reason is simple, this is not a game about zombies, but rather a horror game in general featuring well known (and less well known) monsters or other types of creatures that all want only one thing, to eat your neighbors (or kill them) and they're after you too. So, in this game, your objective is to rescue as much of your neighbors as possible before they get attacked by a creature (at least 1 neighbor must survive in each level and not rescuing a neihbor will diminish the total of possible neihbors to rescue in the next levels). While doing that, you must attack tons of creatures spawning everywhere. Don't worry, you have a water gun (you can collect other weapons, of course). I remember it being better when I first played it, but then I was young. Nowadays, I'd say it's average, I can't say it's bad, but I can't really say it's that great either. OK, maybe a little bit better than average, probably worth a try, but ridiculously hard. It sure deserves a spot in my memory for being original at the time (Resident Evil wasn't out) and the cover just makes me think of old low-budget horror movies, that's probably the theme they were trying to reproduce. One last thing, the music is not really the greatest, but it has exactly the good B-movie feel to it, as can be seen in the title screen.

  • great game, lucky to have got it! in the PAL version they took out the chainsaws and brought in an axe instead - bit lame!

2 player mode was great fun though, though most of my friends couldn't make it past level 7 or so

  • The famous lumberjack. I don't know why they bothered to censor little things like that in PAL regions. Censorship must be less problematic these days, I hope. Though I remember games like Manhunt causing some controversy in certain PAL regions.

  • @swakner to bad they didn't have that on Virtual Console. I just got this today but it's only for SNES. I really want to get Streets of Rage though.

  • booooo the sega version pwnd this game so bad the music on this is soooo terrible... the sega had nice uncomplicated music but was still super catchy and it wasnt so damn high pitched and whiney sounding... also the hud is crap you have to press a button just to see the radar

  • SNES ftw =)

  • Theres a bonus symbol in that level, you need a bazooka or better to get it

  • Man, this brings back some memories. xD I was thinking, wouldn't this be perfect for a re-release on DS? DS's control scheme is basically a SNES controller, and it would hit the nostalgia market big-time. Maybe release some other SNES games in a "SNES Classics" line?

  • whoa i am the firts i see this i love this game its awesome

SNES THE BEST CONSOLE IN THE HYSTORY
