  • This is exactly why karate is shit for self defence. everything is choreographed. You need full contact sparring (with pads or without) to learn how to actually fight.

  • These are just drills to improve timing. What martial art do you train in, and how long have you been training?

  • @ValleyOfChrome2112 Bullshit you are the one who can't defend himself. Any street fight I have ever been in has resulted in me kicking the ass of my opponent karate is pretty damn good. Think this kind of training does nothing? It speeds up your brain reaction time so that Your brain will defend itself automatically, even if you aren't aware of it. Another thing is that most opponents are stupid and will lunge at you where this will knock them to the ground instantly.

  • These guys should team up with 'Stone Muay Thai' to make the complete absolute crap martial art where you bullshit people you have any idea by sparring other nerds with no idea about fighting or self defence. A 12 yeard old librarian could steel the pocket money off these guys. There is nothing martial in this art, just MCDojo at its best with $5 black belts doing bad karate. If I did karate I would go down and sort theses guys for degrading a once effective style to hand slapping tap dancing

  • Fact - what is all this stuff about who someone trains under? Your head instructor is important but just using a name is why this is a McDojo Kmart karate System. They cant stand on their own two feet. The scary thing is if you train with these guys then that is as good as you will get! These Kmart Black Belts like to throw names around and practice there movie style inneffective stuff in their McDojo.

  • Fact - The worst part of this is it actually very bad karate and that these guys actually believe they can fight. This shows that 'anyone' can open a martial club - well put a matt in a small room - and 'anyone' does. Forget all arguements about the uselessness of this type of training and just look at how inneffective and unathletic the stuff they are doing is. Their gym is a just fantasy Martial Arts to suck in those who no nothing about real life. The is NO martial in the ART shown here.

  • Elements fitness also in Mitchell just around the corner from Phoenix. I train with Ben Langford under John Will. Also train with Elvis Sinosic SPMA Sydney and Richard Norton. I'm also a black belt under Tino Ceberano. If you train BJJ at Phoenix you would know my friend Joe(Blue belt) as him about Grant at elements. I would agree that there are a lot of McDojos around. I however am not one of them and i don't think you have been training long enough to tell the deference.

  • Yes I live in Canberra. I Train with Phoenix Kickboxing and BJJ. I have no intention of going to your mcdojo. Who do you train under for BJJ?

  • I can and have defended myself against attacks. I have been training around 20 years. Karate (black belt), boxing (coach), aikido, BJJ & kickboxing). With out sparring drills are useless. I would also add that without drills sparring is useless. do you train if you are ever in canberra come a long to a training session at Elements fitness.

  • Ok, I see your logic, I dont agree... but its unlikely you will convince me, nor I you. Enjoy your toe to toe

  • Im not saying there is no point in training drills. But if you dont practice them in combat eg. sparring, the drills will have no use. I guarentee these guys couldnt defend themselves in a street fight.

  • Valley, if you dont do drills, how do you improve on your technique? Maybe some of the moves in the above video will turn up once in a fight (maybe not at all)...if you haven't drilled it to the point where you respond immidiatly then you will miss an oppertunity to take controll. Or you could just stand toe to toe and see who has the thickest head.
