The Beach Boys' songwriting genius was at Borders in Ann Arbour, MI signing copies of his new album 'That Lucky Old Sun'. Nov. 12 2008.
That day, I referred to myself as that lucky old son of a gun. I got Pet Sounds (the GREATEST album ever made) signed...by the man who created it. Pretty amazing.

If you listen closely, I say "thank you so much". He says either "Alright, sir" or "thank you, sir". Hard to make out. Maybe someone here can help me.
You'll also notice that, for a change, I can't stop smiling.

Brian kept joking with security. Whenever anyone was done, they would get them to move on. Brian kept making fun of them & imitating them saying "straight ahead! straight through! move on! move along!". lol

Musically, I AM the Beach Boys." - Brian Wilson

Man, what a gift. The Beach Boys were amazingly talented singers, but what would it mean without Brian's music & harmonies to sing? Bob Dylan said Wilson's ear should be donated to the Smithsonian. Brian's lead vocal in 'Don't Worry Baby' (one of my top 25 songs ever) just kills me.
He wrote one of the few songs that gets me misty-eyed nearly every time I hear it ('When I Grow Up (To Be a Man)'). He also sang lead in 'Wouldn't It Be Nice' (another one of my favorite songs ever written). And to think that at the age of 66, he is STILL writing music that good. Amazing.

What a memorable experience.

ps- shout out to Dave & Joan.

  • Awesome experience I bet. Thanks for sharing.

  • You're so lucky and no Melinda (yeahhh) he looks so relaxed like his oldself when she's not around

  • @Sage80 I've seen him but never met him.

  • @Sage80 The Mozart of 20th Century music spoke to you ... that's a pretty big deal, particuarly given Brian's adversion to people and crowds. And you got "Pet Sounds" signed by the man himself on top of it, unreal.
