The ten minute solo entitled "Blackmail Depends on Secrecy" choreographed by George Alley of Alley Ink Dance in fufillment of his New Edge Mix Grant for the Community Education Center of Philadelphia, is a study in telling the same narrative as differently as possible, three times. The first section of the piece is danced in silence, the second with recorded dialogue, and the third with music. The work is a black comedy, informed by the movie/board game "Clue". Set in the 50's against the backdrop of the 'red scare', "Blackmail Depends on Secrecy" explores and pokes fun at the McCarthyist social agenda; something alarmingly relevant in our current political climate. This work is an exploration in how to push the boundaries as much as possible between each mode of communication (silence, text and soundscape.) Performed by choreographer George Alley.
