Part Seven of a series that I am doing about my "Personal Food Storage System". One 50lb bag of unpopped popcorn will fill the bed of a pick-up truck once it has been popped.

  • My husband went through 9 pounds of popcorn in one month. As a joke I bought the 50# bag. The joke was on me. It's the only way I buy the stuff now. lol. After watching Alton Brown, we now have a wok we only use for popping corn. It's narly looking now but works great on our gas stove. I still use my air popper and like it that way. No oil on my hands. :) I found it funny you had to say not to get bugs out of flour with the air popper. lol. Some people I'm sure needed to hear that.

  • @VivianRinSC An air popper will only pop popcorn. If you were to come across any tight waterproof seeds like popcorn in the wild you could also pop those, but you couldn't use an air popper. You would have to have a wok.. and not a plug in wok. Without electricity you could actually pop something like amaranth on an open fire.

  • @SustenanceNCovering Our gas stove works without electricity. Don't have the stash of propane/gas like you have but am working on that. When power goes out here for a few days usually during an ice/snow storm, everyone comes here if they can. We're set up for emergencies. :)

  • @VivianRinSC One of the projects that I want to get done this year is a permanent rocket stove. If you aren't familiar with it you should look it up. They use just a few twigs to make a lot of heat.

  • @SustenanceNCovering Hubs and son are working on this, too. need to decide where we want it. So many projects, so little time and money. lol. Hubs bought stuff for a solar system but then hurt his back so it's all just sitting there. :( He's doing better so maybe soon, he'll work on it or the rocket stove or water storage system (gutter & barrels) or ... :p We stay pretty busy

  • @VivianRinSC I don't have a job so I have plenty of time, but my health isn't too good so the simplest thing takes forever. But I do get a lot more done than most people. I just do a little every day when I am able. And the days when I'm not able I make videos.

  • I love popcorn with bacon or hard salami.

  • oil never goes bad

  • @SustenanceNCovering Same here, too. I think we're at that age.

  • @lkcheat I use my humanure toilet to start fruit tree seeds. I use chicken manure tea to fertilize everything else. Whenever I shuck oysters I put the shells around my trees. Down here our soil is higher acid than the northeast and the calcium in the oyster shells works miracles.
