The point here is that Bush had Gonzales fire attorneys in the middle of his tenure because they weren't "loyal bushies" according to a White House memo. It's one thing to fill the department with people you agree with, every President does that, but to fire them because you don't think they're loyal enough to you is a line nobody had crossed until now.
"President Clinton presented the move as something perfectly ordinary: "All those people are routinely replaced," "and I have not done anything differently." In fact, the dismissals were unprecedented: Previous Presidents, including Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter, had both retained holdovers from the previous Administration and only replaced them gradually as their tenures expired. This allowed continuity of leadership within the U.S. Attorney offices during the transition."
Note: Bush appointed Lam, Black, and Iglesias during the first two years of his term. He was just getting rid of them because they refused to participate in his plan for OBSTRUCTION OF JUSTICE. PS obstruction of justice was one of the charges for which impeachment papers were prepared for Nixon.
dennyindc, you are apparently perpetuating a false comparison. All presidents fire the former presidents US attorneys. Bush I even fired Reagan's. Bush Jr. fired people he appointed because either 1. they were prosecuting people he likes (as in the case of Carol Lam and and Frederick Black) or 2. they refused to persue baseless charges against people he didn't like (ex. David Iglesias)
Clinton replaced Republican U.S. Attorneys at the beginning of his initial term. Bush did exactly the same thing in 2001. This is customary procedure. Clinton's A.G. even held a press conference to explain what they were doing and that it was at the President's request. What is not customary is mid-term firings of such Attorneys -- who are your own appointees -- and then lying about the circumstances and parties responsible. Clinton -- in the open; Bush -- hiding in the shadows.
The big difference between this and AG and W doing the same thing? Janet Reno (god how I don't miss that bloated man bag) was on TV explaining what she did and why she did it. The President asked it to be done and she did it. Whereas W asked AG to do the same thing and coverups convened followed by lying. If we can impeach Clinton for lying under oath, surely we can do the same for Alberto (the whitest guy ever named Alberto) Gonzales.
Janet Reno is one hideous creature !

Someone needs to fire her hairstylist.
Whoever dresses her dry drenched ass has a wonderful sense of humor !
I need to burn out my eyeballs now.

If it is "routinely done" then someone please tell me what other administration in the history of America fired 93 attorneys in 1 day.
