Been having this problem with my 5-year-old, out-of-warranty, Viewsonic VP930b monitor recently. The problem has intensified over the last several days. I've seen it at its worst when watching videos online, where the concentration of the lines will increase in the pixel rows containing the video player. This causes the pixel rows containing the video to compress vertically and pull the bottom part of the screen upward. While doing this, the top of the screen gets copied and displayed at the bottom, making up for the vacated space, as if the screen were displaying a section of a paper that had been curved back so that it connected end-to-end. Note that when this happens, it doesn't stay that way but for a tiny fraction of a second, but it does it incredibly frequently, so that there are numerous occurrences per second.

The problem doesn't always happen, and when it does, it's not always as horrible as I described it above. The color patterns on some web pages do seem to intensify it, but as shown, the problem occurs outside of web pages, as well.

So far, what I've been talking about has been the horizontal lines. That was actually the second problem. The first was the waviness/shimmering/flickering, which you can see best along the edges of application windows and icons. It's as if rows of pixels (rather, their color patterns) shift rapidly back and forth. This was occurring before the problem with the lines, and it still occurs. It may be that it's just a milder form of the line problem.

Occasionally, while one of the other problems is occurring, a full-width rectangular portion of the screen will lighten and then go back to normal again, at about the same frequency as the lines, though this does not happen as often as the other two issues.

None of these occurs all the time. My monitor sometimes behaves perfectly for up to 1.5 hours before starting to go berserk again.

I have tried this monitor with another computer and the problems remained.

It has been suggested by a friend that these problems are due either to leaking capacitors or a failing LCD ribbon connection (which may be repairable with tape that can conduct electricity from one side to the other; anyone know where I can buy this, btw, or what it's called?). Does anyone know what might be causing this, and if it requires special repair parts, where (online) I might find those?

Apologies for the few seconds where I zoomed in and made it hard on the eyes. I was doing this with my webcam and it didn't focus, as I wanted it to.
