  • I have biult a few 304s also. I find the 5.0 class very competive, and AMC motor make so much torque that they actually out perform other 5.0s on the low end. The Ford 5 litre works great, and the old Chevy 302 really made the others look bad. I owned a new 73 Hornet X hatchback and really loved the handling..

  • yea i love the 304 but im having problems keeping cam and dizzy gears in it they like to shater i replaced the first ones with matched msd set but in 200 miles they shatterd too, im think ing about a 360 though with aluminum heads.

  • i'm keeping my original motor and trans. where can i find body parts, i got a 71 sportabout (i just put vid up).

  • ok my 304 was original body parts well what exactly are you looking for bc most are hard to find

  • Yeah...it's a 304...or...a 401. Look the same.

  • its a 304 with the same amount of power as a stock 401

  • slip a 401 in there,with a 727 torqueflite,make sure its 72 or later motor,to avoid machining crank hub for adapter.100 cubes is a big deal.plus a 401 has a steel crank,forged rods.They fly.

  • did you have to do any mods to the power steering pump to fit that distributor?

  • is it a injection engine?

  • you like 77 hornets watch?v=baeQnhRITeg

  • Great looking car! A friend with a 1,000 HP+ 401 powered drag car had 2 dizzy gear failures and replaced his gear with a stock one out of a stock AMC engine and held up fine. Those after market dizzy gears aren't very good usually. I had a Mark Donohue Javelin with Hedmans that leaked badly too. I threw away the paper gasket using the stock ones. Let the engine cool overnight, then retightened them dead cold. Did it again dead cold the next day. Never leaked again! Give it a try.

  • cool car fix that leak, get a bronze gear thats what i put in mine and ran fine after that. nice hornetamx not 2 many left!

  • im building a 360 for my 72 jav with indy heads and a roller cam. should make some impressive power.

  • i'm looking for fenders and doors mostly, they are pretty bad. the plastic is pretty messed up but could be fixed. any interior plastic. my tub is pretty solid, on the outside. thanx for the reply
