In this three part episode, Explorations Northwest visits the 2009 Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Show at Berthusen Park, near Lynden, WA.
Featuring antique tractors, engines, and machines of nearly every size and description, the annual Puget Sound Antique Tractor and Machinery Association show is a special event with something for the whole family, including antique tractor parades, machinery demonstrations, a flea market, lawn tractor pulling competitions for kids, and more.
In Part One, we visit with association president Brian Dykstra and learn about the massive Corliss mill engine, one of several permanent exhibits at the park.
In Part Two, we learn about the history of steam and hear a few yarns, as enthusiast Frank Orr tells us all about firing up the boiler and readying his wonderful 6hp stationary steam engine, which drives an informative power transmission demonstration.
In Part Three, lifelong Whatcom County resident Bob Sorensen shows us what can be accomplished with steam power! We get to watch as Bob and his crew transport and saw logs at his working saw mill, which features two steam donkeys, two steam engines, and a skyline operation.
