A timeless, classic presentation that surveys the glorious Muslim past and analyzes the reasons why the ummah is failing to reach such standards of excellence today. On the campus of the University of Miami, respected historian and imam Abdullah Hakim Quick asks the audience to reflect upon Muslim achievements from the "Golden Age of Islam" in Spain to the more recent contributions during the "Age of Discovery" in the Americas. After revealing fascinating evidence of Muslim explorations and contributions to science and technology, the lecture focuses on the vital lessons that can be drawn from this history and what things about ourselves we must change today to reclaim the success of the past. The various topics discussed: names on the map with possible Arabic roots, Columbus' encounter with Muslims, Spanish Muslim migration to the Americas before Columbus, Muslim African slaves, Melungeons as part of your lineage, Muslims melting in the "melting pot", culture vs. religion, the marginalization of Muslim women, encouraging youth to take leadership roles, the dangers of extremism and dictatorship, the dangers of jealousy and arrogance, sincerity, superstition, nationalism, Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam, history from a "Euro-centric" point-of-view, and the difference between pride and dignity. (Duration: 1 hour, 19 min)
It's strange how desert nomands wondering in the wilderness with tents could find philosophy of the Greeks with no history of that kind of learning before muhamad

It is true that the philosophy that catapulted Western civilization was copied from Islamic philosophy. However, it was a fake copy, replacing Quran with bible (Thomas Aquinas). The true basis (shahada) of western civilization is: There is no god but Money, prophet is the Maximum. Compare that with Islam's shahada: There is no god but Allah, prophet is Muhammad.
