Komets blank Thunder 5-0
Tim Haun snags third shutout of season
Fort Wayne, IN | Wednesday, March 10, 2010 --- The Komets began a busy week of three home games in four nights with a 5-0 win Wednesday over the visiting Bloomington PrairieThunder to snap a two-game losing skid and gain ground on first-place Muskegon and second-place Port Huron in the race for the top spot in the IHL. -standings-

Konstantin Shafranov was the first to dent the twine at 4:01 of the first frame. Sean O'Connor followed with a pair at 7:12 and again at 11:28 to send the game into the first intermission with a 3-0 Komet lead. Colin Chaulk hit the net with 27 seconds remaining in the second period for his 18th goal of the season and a 4-0 Komet bulge at the end of two. Justin Chwedoruk capped the scoring at 5:28 of third period to give the Komets and goaltender Tim Haun a 5-0 shutout.

HHaun pitched his third shutout and 22nd win of the season on 25 saves. The Thunder's Kevin Armstrong suffered his second loss of the season stopping 41 of 45 Fort Wayne shots. -gamesheet-

The Komets improved to 36-8-1-2 for 75 points and gained two points on league-leader Muskegon to trail the Lumberjacks by eight points. The Komets moved to within one point of second-place Port Huron. Bloomington fell to 25-25-2-5 with their fourth straight loss.

The Komets stay home for a double-header weekend. The Lumberjacks come to town for an 8pm faceoff Friday. Then the Komets have another opportunity to gain ground on Port Huron when the Icehawks visit at 7:30pm Saturday.
