"She Never Knew (She Never Knew)" is based on the real life story of a woman who, as a young girl in the 1930's, was wrongfully sent to a state institution for the feeble minded by her mother. Shot just outside of New York City in the now abandoned facility where she once lived, the video address the issue of institutional retardation; a practice where people, who would by today's standards be mainstreamed into society, were in the not too distant past warehoused in places for the "insane" and "mentally defective."
Dana Mase is a remarkable talent. The fact that Dana used her talent to tell this heart wrenching story is a testament to the sincere feelings she has for her fellow human beings. Dana, I applaud you.

Hello. My name is David Weber and I conceived, directed and edited the video. I can't tell you how gratifying it is to have folks respond to it the way you have. Please check out this link to a hi resolution version which I think looks and plays much better. Thanks again for your kind words. It can be found @ TorneBrookFilms on YouTube

I hope it's ok that I linked to this video and put the words on my blog, fully credited to the author, I love this video. It's profoundly moving. As mentioned in another comment, we are working to establish January 23 as he International Day of Mourning and Memory' and this could be the theme song for the day. I'd love to interview the singer for my blog if she'd ever be interested.

I had tears running down my face watching this video - so so many lives marred by the institution. "She never knew about the toothfairy or being tucked into bed by her daddy." such profound words.

"Wrongfully" sent to an institution? When is it ever right?
Lovely singing, beautifully painful lyrics. BTW, I was sent here by Dave Hingsburger, from his blog "Rolling Around in My Head," who is trying to establish January 23 as the "International Day of Mourning and Memory" in honor of all those who have been sent away to institutions and forgotten.
They usually died in the institutions, and were buried on the grounds, without even a name on their headstones.
