The reformed infamous post punk band "The Ears" play "Scarecrow" at the Ding Dong Lounge in Melbourne on May 9th. The first gig in a planned series featuring various punk, and post punk bands that played at the notorious venue, The Crystal Ballroom in St. Kilda in the late 70's and early 80s. The Ears headlined the gig which also featured bands, "Little Murders and "The Pang".
The Ears' short lived and chaotic career was fictionalised in the 1985 film, "Dogs In Space" directed by Richard Lowenstein. Oz Rock legend Michael Hutchence played Ears front man Sam Sejavka in the movie. All these years later it was great to see most of the original members of the band regroup for this very entertaining show. The band featured Sam Sejavka upfront, Carl Manuel on drums, Michael Lewis on guitar, Cathy McQuade providing vocals (she was the band's original bass player who left the group to join 80s band "Deckchairs Overboard") and her replacement back in the day, Ross Farnell was back on the bass. Andrew Park on keyboards (who played at last years "Sails Of Oblivion" gig - - see other clips on Youtube) once played by original members Tim McLaughlan and Gus Till.
Would love to have heard Cathy playing the bass.....thanks,cheers.
