In James Toney's UFC debut against Randy Couture, he loses in quick fashion and with no offense, by tapping out to a Randy Couture choke in the first round. Now that we've seen an accomplished boxer in MMA, are we done with the debate?

One thing that is true that no one can argue is that mma and boxing both have fuckin shitty ass refs man they are so bad they dont even know shit about mma or boxing. Example mayweather vs ortiz, steve mazagati. The athletic commission thinks it's protecting the fighters by bringing in their refs are actually hurting the fighters by bringing in people that dont know shit.

@Tavarith So I was wrong by 5 lbs. I havne't watched UFC in a while. But unlike you I knew that Boxing welterweight is 147lbs and thus nowhere near 170, so your notion of them fighting because they're both "welterweights" is ridiculous and uninformed.

@k4n31985 you dont know what your talking about first off welterweight is 170 not 175 and gsp wouldnt just lay on top of mayweather he would probably outwork mayweather even standing up due to the difference in the stances of the two sports and the reason mayweather has a 42-0 record is because he fought his way through tons of bums! if you counted legit fights hes probably 15-0 maybe less....

@k4n31985 How many fights does Mayweather do a year? I mean, somebody like GSP has more fights in the matter of a couple months than Mayweather has in years. A super athlete is somebody who constantly goes in and wins. And let me tell you this, as a BJJ and Muay Thai fighter, it's easier to knock them out then choke them out. A submission win is more decisive than any other win. Boxing, isn't about fighting, it's about doing the sport. BJJ/Muay Thai/Kickboxing will always be more effective.

@TheShottyCutScene maybe maybe not. You underestimate the athletic ability of someone who wins world titles in boxing, let alone olympians (like Mayweather and Cotto). The talent pool in Boxing is gigantic, compared to MMA. You don't see someone with 8 pro wins getting a title shot in boxing, unlike in mma. I like both sports. But you have to understand that someone who manages to rack up dozens of amateur wins, and more than 20 or in floyds case a 42-0 record you have to be a super athlete.

@k4n31985 Even if they took time to learn wrestling, people like GSP, or even Matt Serra would kill them due to their BJJ background. In all honesty, GSP could work him over on the ground, let him get to his feet and finish him with a head kick. A boxing match proves NOTHING about fighting (and also sorry about not knowing the weight classes), it's a sport. MMA is fighting without allowing people to fight dirty. Therefore, the dominant welterweight champ is...
GS fucking P.

@TheShottyCutScene 2ndreply if we assumed they fought in mma gsp would win , in boxing mayweather would win even if he only used his jab. I never said may or any of those I listed would stand a chance using JUST boxing. I said if they were given some time to learn wrestling, and because they are elite athletes, they would have a very good chance of making it in mma if they have build up opponents and work there way up. but obv. if you feed them to a hall of famer with little training they'd lose

@TheShottyCutScene And again you prove your stupidity. in Boxing, Kickboxing, Muay thai etc. Welterweight is 147 lbs. in MMA and Orgs like UFC it's 175lbs (in Pride it was 185lbs). Dipshit. That's a 30 lbs weight difference, they wouldn't fight. In a boxing match GSP would get KO'd in the first round. In MMA GSP would lay on Mayweather like a wet blanket and bore him to death (like he has done in most matches since little Serra knocked him out, the only good fight since was the rematch) or sub.
