Let's Go Crazy! by Susie Crooks, Hawkes Bay, NZ
Adapted + Directed for the stage by Adam Fresco + Simon Clark
Performed by Simon Clark
A monologue based on Susie's short stories and poems which tell it like it is, only with a wonderfully wry sense of humour. As Susie says: "People need to understand that mental distress defeats everyone at some point in their lives. I have never met anyone who's chronically 'normal.' I think the Mental Illness "industry" has a lot to answer for in creating stigma and discrimination. Our treatments in acute care are barbaric and need to change."
Susie Crooks lives in Te Awanga, Hawkes Bay. Susie has delivered workshops for Like Minds providers all over New Zealand. She writes to try and put a human face on madness and show that there's value in the experience.
"Let's Go Crazy"" was written and performed for the 2010 reTHiNK Theatre Challenge "M.A.D. ...it's a matter of degree" and produced by Titirangi Theatre and Dramatrain
Filmed by Morningside Productions
reTHiNK is run by Mind and Body Consultants as part of the Like Minds, Like Mine programme to reduce the stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness.
