  • These truss support roof systems that are lifted on narrow vertical support legs are extremely susceptible to lateral forces. The bases that support them are small, and often insufficient guy wires (or none at all) are used to stabilize the whole assembly. Overloading is also a constant problem, as people let themselves get pressured into bad decisions. There are no good excuses for any roof or truss collapse. It's usually due to greed, hubris, or incompetence. Or a mix of all three.

  • i wouldn't be blaming staging for this collapse or most of the other ones on youtube or in the news, a majority of stage collapses are due to weather, but the ones that are indoor you really can't play the weather card unless it was a really freak storm. most indoor ones are exceeding the weight or just plain misinformation from the venue/stadium "these girders are designed to carry x amount of tonnes" "are you sure ...*walks away* CRASH!...clearly not"

  • I have helped set these type of stages up, helping the staging company as a stagehand. Seems more and more arena gear is being put on the load stresses of these stages. The last one I did, in 2011 they actually used a truck strap to keep the tent from EVER being lowered in bad weather... A very bad move!

I also think adding video walls to the back truss is A BAD MOVE!!!

Just because you got lucky in one town, don't mean it won't fall in another. Lets care for all who work and visit these things.

  • I quite remember working a stadium show with a 6 tower roof about this size. We were warned of sever weather and by the time the stage manager gave us the OK to lower the roof (down to the deck we had hoped) we discovered the house electrician had shut the power off. No power for motors so we went to seek shelter. As a tornado touched down in the parking lot we watched the line arrays swing for about 10 minutes, but somehow by the grace of god the roof and tower survived.

  • I know the production company, I was not on the show, I will not reveal it was, And like you said I shook my head and a PRIZE BOX Fell OUT.... You need to condemn all concerts in OK, cuz you suck....

  • It's completely the fault of the stage master, he was obviously gone, yet the production said, HEY WELL put our shit on this stage,,,,,,>>>>YET, if anyone cares, do it and die. A good stagemaster would have lowered the roof due to high winds,to lower the amount of lift on the roof. I've seen stage masters slash the roof, meaning cut holes in the roof, regardless of what the promoter or band had said......many curse words.....though their contracts have clauses, sorry they where NOT stage hands.

  • @bo0tsy1

then who is building them...? Wile E. Coyote...?! the three stooges...? The Katzenjammer Kids...?

  • @bo0tsy1

i don't know what you people have against the female form...

but, you're right... i am an idiot... now, stop trying to imprezz me...

    does it ever end...?

  • @bo0tsy1

where did you find this secret prize of yours...? up your arse...? i asked you to shake your head...!! what is it that you can't figure out...?

  • @CrackerJackLee I found a secret prize, It's tells me you have no concept of the live sound production business. I wish I could have spoken to the guy that was crushed, it's simple, don't get crushed by a stage at a Hillbilly Festival in OK.
