Pirates prowling the waters off the coast of Africa have struck again four times since Monday.

The world's shipping firms are only able to respond by either paying up millions in ransom, or changing the way they do business.

Many shipping companies are now choosing to avoid the Suez canal, threatening to damage Egypt's economy.

The Suez is the country's third biggest income earner and last month alone it earned the country around $500m.

From Cairo, Amr El Kahky reports.

  • @cadaaawe they arnt fishing u retard. they are merchants passing by.

  • @caalimyare are u for real? most of the hijacked ships got taken in international waters. so they didnt do anything wrong. the somalis do it for a living. they hijack and ransom ships to make money. i hope your post was a joke.

  • ok having just read the top 2 thumbs up statements i then assume that it s the Australian navys job to shoot illegal boat people out of the water. for that will teach them for coming. its a nice thought but really we are better than that so get real and stop with the support of pirates in somalia.

  • @suspendedb4 What are your talking about. Its better for Arab countries when Somalia is stable. If you listened you would have heard that Egypt is looking to solve the root causes of trouble off the coast of Somalia instead of blaming Somalis.

  • lol easy money..

  • yeah sure so u want to exploit somalia to inavde egypt so they wont threaten u with cutting the nile waters from u. we are sick and tired of arabs trying to exploit the fragile somalia . ya zalame antom majaniin. eb3ad 3ana ya 3rb e7na nakrahkom
