On Wednesday March 5th, 2008, the Hamilton Police Services received a tip that there was a suspicious package behind a dumpster enclosure at the rear of an east end McDonalds restaurant.
The Explosives Unit was called to the scene to investigate as nearby residents and the occupants of the restaurant were evacuated. The police used a remote controlled robot to survey the area. However due to the recent snowfall the robot was not able to acquire it's target. One of the Units disposal experts donned a protective suit and placed a disruptive charge next to the package. They then set off the charge from a distance disabling the contents of the package.
