Last one for today. Its almost Christmas! !@$^#!!!!!!
I grabbed my phone out of my pocket and looked up at Joe. He was staring at his hand, his foot tapping impatiently. He was grinding his teeth.
"Let me just tell whoever this is that it'll have to wait." I flipped my phone open and saw Joe look up and smile, then lie down on the bed.
"Hello?" I spoke into the phone, walking in no particular direction.
"Hey. Katie? This is Max. I got your number from Carolyn."
"Oh, hi Max." I think i remember him. Carolyn and i were grabbing some lunch last week and she ran into this guy and they started talking and it ended up being an hour before we left that restaurant. He kept looking at me the entire time. Cute, too. "Hey, actually you caught me at a bad time, could i call you back later?"
He laughed slightly. "YOu don't have to pretend like you want to talk to me, i get it. You dont know me, i don't know you. Total strangers and it is a bit weird that I'm calling you, but i just wanted to know if you wanted to come to a barbeque my roommate is having on Wednesday. Carolyn is going, told me to give you a call. Just giving you a heads up, i'd love to see you again."
I looked back at Joe, who had found a stress ball and was throwing it up at the ceiling with his good hand. I turned back the way i was facing.
"That actually sounds like fun, i think i'll come. But i do really have to go, i wasn't making it up." I smiled, then stopped because...well, in my head i thought i was weird to smile to no one. Maybe that's me. Ah, i'm mental.
"Cool. I'll see you Wednesday then. Have a nice night."
"You too, bye." I hung up and put the phone back in my pocket.
"Now," I turned back to Joe. "What was it you wanted to talk ab--"
"Who was on the phone?" He asked suddenly, sitting up and throwing the ball in the basket across the room. Swish.
"Uh, this guy Max. One of Carolyn's friends. Wanted me to go to a barbeque his roommate was having or something." I sat down next to him.
"Sounds....commercial."
I laughed. "Yeah, it's a bit wholesome but why not?" I looked at him, but he was staring at the floor now. "Something you wanted to talk about, Joe?"
"Hmm? Oh, nah. It was nothing to talk about, i figured it out while you were on the phone."
Odd. He usually would tell me anyway. "Oh, well now I'm curious. Tell me." I scooted closer to him.
He slid farther away. "Nope." He said, grinning.
I came closer. "Joe....."
Farther. "Katherine."
He was pressed against the bed post now and had no where else to go so stood on my knees and came really close to his face, glaring at him. "Tell me. Now."
He rolled his eyes and lightly pressed my shoulders down so i was sitting on my feet.
"It was just....I uh wanted to ask you about getting a new car. But thinking it over, it really wasn't too smart. We can't afford a nice one."
"Jeez you make us sound like a married couple." I pulled away from him and stood on the floor. "But alright...i know that's not really it, but i'll accept it wise guy."
"Whatever, Katie. We should probably get going. It's nearly 1 in the morning."
We walked back downstairs, me running exceptionally fast because whenever Joe came within arm's length of me, he'd tickle my sides.
"STOP!" I finally screamed, pushing at his chest while he grabbed my waist and tortured me some more.
"Joe--" I was nearly out of breath from laughing so hard. "Dont--make--me--punch you-in the--"
"Ahem." Mr. Jonas came into the room, smirking. Joe stopped and i grabbed my stomach and took a giant step away from him.
"Hey Dad." Joe said, clearly trying not laugh. "We're just going to uh....go." He ran out the door faster than a linebacker. I laughed.
"Bye Mr. Jonas, thanks for dinner. I'll see you next Sunday!"
"Bye Katherine!" We made our way to the car, singing along to all the songs and agreeing that autotune was REALLY overused.
oh man.
I know where this is going to go:)
