Speed gliding is the funnest thing I've ever done in a hang glider by far. The reason it never made it as a spectator sport is due to the sensitivity on conditions. You need good visibiltiy and calm air to fly 4 feet of the ground with your bar stuffed. Fog, wind, and thermals will shut it down. And crowds, volunteers, and sponsors get frustrated quick when the meet is stalled for hours or canceled due to mother nature.

this is a way better spectator sport than most of the big ones, its retarded that this isnt huge.

one day one day :D

@ogdemigod If you haven't yet gone to Mingus Mountain for a big weekend, do it :) Meet the right people and go from there. it can be much cheaper than you'd think

@mikehoppett He now lives in the Pyrenees, I do not think he was ever thinking of the UK, it would be a bloody short run!!

guess its not fast enough for any1 to notice. :-(

I take it this form of the sport didn't make it much past 2000? never hear of this EVER..

@mikehoppett
what a shame as I'm sure its pure deadly if you make a mistake, it is beyond thrilling to imagine being one of those guys.If I could afford the lessons and gear I would love to start HG.I live in Arizona which I think is good for that!

@ogdemigod
Well I started my HG training in the UK back in 1994 aged 35? I spent approx $1500 training over a year including used beginners wing and kit which is not a lot to fly your own aircraft.....my advice?...life is too short not to HG....... ;-)

@mikehoppett Last time I spoke to Murray Rose (about 6 years ago) he had dreams of doing something bigger with it, guess it didn't happen

@armandin2048 hmmm Bigger eh?? yes.... well......HG really really is a minority sport. ( I guess less than several hundred 'active' HG pilots in Uk ) .even more so nowadays........
but part of me likes that ..Exclusivity........ would I be keen that HG was as easy and accessible as MTBs?? (which I enjoy too) Hell no! ;-)
