Resuscitation of the newborn: A Job aid for frontline birth attendants

Newborn mortality account for approximately 25% of child deaths under the age of 5 years. Birth apshyxia which is the absence of crying or breathing at birth) accounts for 23% of all newborn deaths. Therefore, it is very important that all birth attendants have the necessary skills to quickly and efficiently manage a newborn that fails to breath or cry. This video demonstrates some very basic newborn resuscitation skills on an anatomic model. It is a low cost video made with a Sony camera and edited with Windows Movie Maker.
