Here We Go Again chapter 26

My sob caught in my throat as I was forced to my feet. It seemed an eternity that I stood there, indecisive. Then the answer was obvious to me.
Normal-Aly smiled. "You've decided." I nodded. "Say it aloud. You'll wake up when you've admitted your choice.

I opened my eyes.
Nick: Good morning sleepy head.
"How long was I out?"
Nick: Only... seven hours.
"Wow." I rubbed my eyes and sat up. "How'd I get in bed?"
Nick: I called Regina in. I... didn't know if you would want to wake up using me as a pillow.
I reached for him and he gave me his hand. I smiled and pulled him over to sit on the bed next to me. "Of course I would have."
Nick: *smiles* Well maybe I should have stayed on the couch then.
I laughed. "I had the weirdest dream." I said, pulling him even closer to use him as a pillow again. He put his arm around me.
Nick: What was it?
"You really wanna hear it? You might think I'm crazy."
Nick: I already think you're crazy. You aren't running from me.
I wrinkled my nose, unsure if he was teasing or being serious. Then he grabbed my nose.
Nick: Love that you aren't, of course.
So I snuggled closer to him. "Alright then." I said, closing my eyes. "It was really freaky. There were like.. three of me. And they were each a different personality. I had to choose which one to be before I was even allowed to wake up. It was freaky."
Nick: What were the three personalities? I don't think I've ever seen you different enough to say that you have trio-personality disorder.
I giggled. "One of them was from before you moved here. I was pretty preppy. Pink and frilly and all glittery. The whole deal. Then Regina reined me in and you moved here about a year after I crossed from the dark side." I laughed.
Nick: I can't imagine you being preppy.
"I probably still have some of the outfits."
Nick: *laughs* No thanks. i like you just the way you are. *pauses* What was the second personality, then?
I hesitated. "It was... goth." He snorted in disbelief. "From when you left."
Nick: Oh.
"It was pretty bad, I'll admit it. But that one was easier to get rid of than the preppy one. Because I know you're not leaving like that again. I told her I'd rather be on every billboard on the world and have the entire world know my name and be with you, then be a nobody without you."
Nick: You wouldn't ever be nobody.
He kissed my forehead.
Nick: The third?
"Was me."
Nick: huh?
"Basically, it was me the way I am. Except"
Nick: Except...?
"That was the hardest decision to make." I held Nick tighter to stop tears. "It took me forever to decide." I buried my face in his shirt.
Nick: What decision did you have to make, Aly?
He was holding me close, stroking my hair. "The other me was the me I'd be with my family." I tried explaining, my voice muffled because I was talking into his chest. "And she had you and your brothers and Regina and everyone behind me, while my family stood behind her. I had to choose."
Nick: You had to choose between your friends and your family?
He tightened his arms around me. "yes. It was the hardest decision I've ever made. And I can't take it back. No matter what."
Nick: Do you want to take it back?
I leaned back and looked up into his face. I stared into his eyes for a long time, memorizing every curve, line and detail on his face. "No. I don't want to take it back." I finally said. My eyes filled with water as I said it.
Nick: *brushes a tear of my cheek* which did you pick, Aly?
I blinked through the veil of tears and forced myself to stop crying.
Nick: *tucks my hair behind my ear* Aly?
I put my hand over his.
Nick: Which did you pick?
I kissed his wrist, still holing his hand against my face. "It was the hardest choice of my life." I repeated. "but... I picked..."
