I think you used some mixed statistics in your population statements: draper has a 2008 estimated population of over 40000 and herriman has a 2008 estimated population of 18000. Other than that you seem fairly reasonable, this issue confuses me. Is the problem really so easily solved just by raising taxes, or is there a great disparity in home value that is also causing a property tax revenue shortage? And shouldn't we give all children the same per capita funding?
The east side is merely tired of having both the highest taxes in the state, and no new schools whatsoever. Draper (population-40,000 and fast growing) still doesn't have a high school or Jr. high at all, while Herriman (pop-1,500) is opening a brand new high school this year. I take issue with the assertion that the east somehow owes the west this money. If the west is short on money, then they should first look at raising their taxes to at least the same rates as the east.
(comment 3 of 3) america was founded on the principle of doing what we believe is right and having the freedom to do that. as citizens, we have the right, no, we have the OBLIGATION to stand up and be heard! don't be rash. be educated. know the facts, and be respectful. disrespect, harsh words, and accusations will not help win this fight.
This isn't just Bingham anymore. Copper Hills had to cut our extracurricular Arts programs today. We haven't cut anything else yet, but they're seriously considering it.
