Sean Cronan is the staff photographer for Zoo York skate boards. Channel 1 in New Haven is featuring his Photo Gallery, and we were lucky enough to get a quick interview with Sean at the gallery grand opening. Sean talks a little about his work as a skate photographer, as well as what gear he uses and gives a few tips on how to get your own photo career going.

  • @davis911228 what i do is have a friend stand in on where you plan on capturing the trick at, or like if its down a hubba or rail i will just focus on the spot on the rail i plan taking the picture at.

  • Any comments on this would give me that "ahh ha" that I need. I'm getting good shots now but still get some out of focus sometimes. Just wondering if you have good advice on this. I usually shoot models but am 38 & skated forever & would like to focus more on skate photography.

I'll probably grab a TS lens too... nice wide one.

  • Focusing.... I don't know who will answer this but I'd love to hear a pro response. I shoot on a 50D & for skating a 10/2.8 fisheye and a strobist kit. How do you set up for your focusing? I shoot in MF and try to focus on the area a skater will be at about f/8 (depending on the lighting) or so... but it's hard to get those fast shots you weren't expecting or unplanned. At this point, I know you know what I'm getting at because as a photographer, you would have had to overcome this issue.
