One of the great comments in this race concerned Vodkatini: '...and Vodkatini's condescended to start...' If ever there was an unreliable horse lol!

The ultimate terror at Aintree would have been Dessie brought down by one of the National 'no hopers',,, so pleased he never ran in the race.

This matches dawn run for courage and guts and remember after all his hard races he still went on to win an irish national with over 12 stone to carry one of the greats of national hunt racing.

For me Dessie will always be number one, call it nostalgic, but some of his greatest feats were won through heart and grit - obviously raw ability is there - but Kuato Star is just like a mutant of the species, like Hussan Bolt, brilliant yes, but the heart and drama of a champion, Dessie will always be the greatest for me ;-)
