Peter Jackson's pictures, Ralph Bakshi's soundtrack from 1978, my cut. See it in HIGH QUALITY!!!
"The passage of the Marshes - Helm's deep."
All editing is about deceiving the eye. Often we see people talking to each other in the same room, but it can be years between the shots, and perhaps the actors have never met. When Gandalf leavs Edoras he is talking to Théoden. In Bakshi's film they are at a hill, but I put that scene in the stable, and then I only had to cut in some pictures of Théoden responding, and we believs that they are there talking to each other.
Considering the technique of drama, the scene where Théoden asks Aragorn if there is any hope for them, is very important. Aragorns douptful silence is the plot point where the audience lose all hope and just have to see how the film ends. I wanted Aragorn to react in the same way here, and luckily I found close ups with him and Théoden that conveys the same feeling.
The part with Gollum was easy. I only had to use similar scenes from Jackson's film to the soundtrack. And, above all, the "sneaking-scene" in Jackson's film is easy to believe that it was made with Bakshi's soundtrack as model.
Notice the flashing lightnings in the warg-cuts at Helm's deep. They are all created by me.

  • Do a version with the old King Kong and the new King Kong

  • Ha ha! Yea! That's a good idea. Unfortunately I am no King Kong-fan. You have to love the film(-s) to work with them. I was thinking about Narnia. There is an animated film of "The lion, the witch..." from 1980-something. Perhaps... :)

  • The old soundtrack is so cheesy. At least that's one thing that has gotten better with time.

  • @MysticArksRevenge have you noticed? Ralph Bakshi only made FOTR and half of 2towers, and when PJ made the movies, it's like the ROTK movie was made to ''finish'' Bakshi storyline, except for the Ent vs Isengard scene.

  • Ha! I just love how you dubbed over Gimli saying "You could have picked a better spot" with "I like this place." (Or, wait, was that the "Whatever luck you live by..." scene, I can't tell.)

  • @raimat66 or! if you want to make something like this with The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe, you could use the '80s miniseries by the BBC.

  • he score at 1:05 or so is like the same from Rambo II

  • i would like to see the Rankin-Bass R.O.T.K. cartoon being cut with Peter Jackson's

  • That's an awesome idea!

  • I agree. That's why I only watch the Peter Jackson sequels, The Two Towers and The Return of the King, after I watch Ralph Bakshi's Lord of the RIngs.

  • 0:39 LOL! XD

Awesome job by the way! :D

  • should have put a bad guy on a horse in the army just like in the 1978 movie
