I was out early evening and this is what I see.

In wisconsin Hunters left 68,000 wounded deer in the forest ground to suffer and die.

"For me and many of the people who contact me to offer their support, killing innocent animals for self-gratification is no different from killing innocent people for self-gratification."

  • There are PLENTY of protein in veggies like soy, kale, spinach, nuts, seeds, so why use animals as a source of protein.? You are "worried" about hormones but do you consume milk? How about cheese and other dairy products because that is where tons of hormones are too. Do you think about mad deer disease and CWD. (read past comment on that subject)

  • Just use the word kill because the public cannot be blinded by euphemistic words and I am tired of the killing industry using the word 'harvest" or "taken" when the animals were KILLED. The dogs killed in China would you say they were 'harvested" or killed? I bet no one of you use the word "harvest" when it comes to the dogs in china or horse slaughter would not be "harvest" either.

  • Prions the agent in Mad Deer Disease /CWD cannot be destroyed with fire.

"Prions are simply proteins, not living organisms, and they can survive almost anything, even hundreds of degrees of heat. Placing infected tissue in a landfill simply removes it, but scientists worry that the prions can leach through soil and groundwater, and spread."

The disease are much more dangerous then AIDS and you cannot always tell when the animals are sick .

  • I know quiet a bit about Cronic Wasting Disease. When it was anounced that it may be encountered in my state i read all i could about it. I know all the symptoms and ways to identify a deer or elk with it begging to end. That same year i saw a doe that was in the final stages of the disease. So i did the right thing. I shot her in the head so she didn't have to suffer anymore. the death was instant. I came back as fast as i could with diesel and burned the carcass to ash.

  • I'm trying not to argue because you've been nice so far. My familly does great with a balanced diet. We don't gorge on red meat, but we consume the proper amount of veggies, grains, and meats. my kids snack on carrot sticks not jerky or candy bars. Venison is much healthier than beef because it has not had growth horemones or anywhere near the amount of fat beef does. By consuming controlled amounts my very active kids get a lot of protein and have energy to burn like cub scout hikes.

  • I don't want to argue. We use the word harvested out of respect for other peoples sensitivities. People who don't want to hear "killed". I know the animal is killed. But i was trying to put it in as polite of terms as i could while getting the info across about the growth. What would you like me to say? "i blew one away last year." I don't like other hunters talking that way to anyone. So we use the word "harvest" meaning to take from it's environment and reduce to possesion for consumption.

  • I learned that it is the part of the antler shedding which I did not know either and surprisingly even the animals rescue had no idea. Although I am glad you have salvaged the carcass and ate it I wish you never killed the animal to begin with. Unless yours is about pure necessity we do not need to kill in order to survive imagine how much you and your family could live healthy on non-meat diet? Have you also though about CWD or Mad Deer Disease?

  • First of all let me make something clear to you and the other killing public. Harvesting is for crops not for living sentient being. If these life ended in the fall (naturally) and by God ready to be picked like potatoes and they don't run, scream or suffer then we can call it it "harvesting" otherwise its killing or you killed him. I do not care if its for food, sentient animals death is not a "harvest" so quit the euphemistic words.
