1/2 In the restrictive political vocabulary, a right winger MIGHT be able to get away with calling the Democrats Left wing, though I think even in THAT benighted land this is stretching it. However, where I live--we have a national health service, we have 80% dole if we lose our jobs, we have 80% inflation proof pensions, we have tuition-free university, and we've had all of this for many generations now--the US Democratic Party is positively 19th century.

I feel sorry for those who get all sentimental over Bush because he is eating humble pie and leaving office. He took a rich and powerful country and left it on its knees. He started wars that killed hundreds of thousands; he enriched his buddies in the petroleum industry; he authorised torture and violations of basic human rights; he presided over the melt-down of the American economy. A cynical liar and charlatan.

Move over Harding! We have a new "Worst President of All" to take your place.
