GRENCSÓ OPEN COLLECTIVE + LEWIS JORDAN (US)

Lewis JORDAN - alto saxophone, poems
GRENCSÓ István - tenor saxophone, alto flute
Hans van VLIET - trombone, trumpet
MÁRKOS Albert -- cello
HOCK Ernő - bass, double bass
JESZENSZKY György - drums, conga
G. SZABÓ Hunor -- drums

Saxophonist and flutist István Grencsó is a significant figure of the Hungarian avant-garde jazz scene. As György Szabados's partner, he gained wider popularity in the 1980s, establishing the Collective in 1984, which is still his primary band. Since then, he's released ten albums with his constantly shifting formation. Thanks to the Mediawave Festival, he met American saxophonist and poet Lewis in the 90s, and although they maintained an ongoing relationship since then, their next series of concerts took place as late as 2008, followed by an album in 2009. The CD showcasing their vivid range of musical textures as well as Jordan's quasi-rap performance of his poems was listed as one of the three best domestic jazz albums in the country.

MICHIEL BRAAM TRIO (NL) + LUKÁCS MIKLÓS, KOVÁCS FERENC

Michiel BRAAM -- piano
Wilbert de JOODE -- double bass
Michael VATCHER -- drums
LUKÁCS Miklós - dulcimer
KOVÁCS Ferenc -- violin

Michiel Braam is one of the leading figures of contemporary Dutch jazz, and his trio is rightfully considered to be not only one of the best in his country, but in the entire European region as well. This isn't their first visit to Hungary, but this is their debut performance with Hungarian musicians in Budapest. As requested by the trio, the local musicians join them on authentic folk music instruments: Miklós Lukács will play the dulcimer, whilst Ferenc Kovács contributes on violin.
