Anoka County K9 Rocky Memorial Video

K9 Rocky joined the Anoka County Sheriff's Office K9 Unit in June of 2004. He was first assigned to handler Deputy Kim Hauger. The two worked side by side for the next 5 years, with K9 Rocky always ready to work. In 2009 Deputy Hauger was promoted to Sgt. and had to make the difficult decision to give the dog up. He was then partnered with Deputy Pete Psyck who was also a SWAT team member. Training began in September 2009 and they completed class together in early December. December 30, 2009, an Anoka County Deputy was at a domestic escort in Ham Lake, Minnesota. He stood by for safety as previous tenants were picking up a vehicle. While standing by, a shot rang out from the home in the direction of the squad car. A perimeter was established and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team arrived shortly after. After several attempts to contact occupant(s) & several rounds of gas shot in the house, it was time for SWAT to enter. K9 Rocky was part of the entry team & let the entry. Upon entering, K9 Rocky alerted to the hallway and headed that direction. Shots rang out from the hallway. Gunfired was exchanged between the suspect and SWAT team members as they backed out to regroup. The SWAT team eventually made entry again and found both K9 Rock and the suspect dead. It has been openly acknowledged that K9 Rocky saved the lives of SWAT team members.

On January 12, 2010, K9 Rocky was posthumously awarded the Anoka County Sheriff's Office "Medal of Valor" & "Purple Heart" at a memorial service held at the new Anoka County Sheriff's Office in Andover, Minnesota. They both will be displayed at the office as a reminder of Rocky's sacrifice. The SWAT team also presented both Sgt. Hauger & Deputy Psyck a special plack acknowledging Rocky's service to the SWAT team.

This video still makes me cry 2 years later. My husband was on with Anoka County just 14 days when this happened, but it still felt like losing a member of the family to him. God Bless Rocky and the Anoka County Sheriff's Office...

I'm often there to protect your rights, My presence sometimes hinders fights. I never attack with thoughts to kill, When subduing one, my job I fill. I never worry a single thought, as to how I'll fare at a certain spot, The love I have for a handler's care, is all I need each day to fare.

@ashtarsheran123 thats what the dogs are for. They are loved and well cared for, but its there job to put themselves in harms danger so the officers don't. They will still defend the dog if they can, but the dog can smell and track people and drugs...officers can not.
