Soon to change. India, China reaching for space (moon) while Americans want Creationism taught in school. Tides change. Unless the US wakes up their time could be up. All great empires have fallen. But its up to the US how they respond. Its not too late if they get back into gear.

India and China have no middle class and the majority of their populations living in absolute squalor. American dogs and cats live better than they do. They're successful only in their cities... beyond that its major problems. Their success won't last forever until they fix it... either they're going to pull their people out of poverty or the poor are going to suck the whole country down... but a space program is the last thing either of them need.
