  • @howardthecoward07 Dave's ratings would spike on nights that Leno was on. Jay was the hottest club comic in the U.S. in the 1980's.

  • Jesus, Jay was awful, even back then.

  • @howardthecoward07 He was Dave's favorite comic.

  • @howardthecoward07 They used to work together before letterman got his show, I think. They were good friends until leno took the tonight show.

  • Why was Leno on letterman like 50 times in the 80's. He was just a comic

  • Dave was always threatened by Jays comfort as a comic...Jay was always threatened of Daves wit and material

  • Leno on Letterman were some of the best shows ever-

Leno was brilliant and Dave was a great straightman-

Once Jay ordered a huge deli meal delivered to the set and ate the entire thing during the show-

Open containers everywhere even on Daves desk! (usually a no-no)

    Talking with his mouth full,etc

Twenty years later, I still remember it-

That's the worst part of that whole east-coast, west-coast competitive bullshit-

The great shows they did together were no more-

  • Dave enjoyed Jay alot, you can tell he really likes him in 1988.

  • yea the DAY he announced his retirement that was the first thing i thought of. and then right after when there were talks of him going to ABC and he appeared on kimmel, it almost seemed like it would be DESTINED to happen because then clearly he showed he'd be up for anything after he left NBC. BUT with him staying at NBC, theres sadly NO WAY they'd let him on Letterman, because that nights show would crush Conan in the ratings. And remember it took just one show to put jay in 1st.
