The ferris wheel was added in 1990 and due to its size and weight £750,000 was spent strengthening the structure of the pier. The Ferris wheel is 108 ft - 32 meters tall. It gives a great view of the Blackpool promenade and is especially good to ride during the Illuminations. The current gondolas allow you to rotate them to get a full panoramic view of Blackpool, on a good day views stretch from Wales in the South to the Lake district in the North.
The Central Pier was constructed for Fun from the start, in the early years the fun was in the form of its dancing facilities. The dancing moved to roller skating in the early 1900's and amusements were added. The jetty was used for steamboat excursions. As dancing became less popular after the second world war the facilities were converted into theatres, pubs and amusement arcades. The jetty was removed in 1975 due to lack of use.

  • @mandm0408 I have got a bit of footage of this years ride,I might put it up if you want.

  • Real typical of them playing the loud music, in the summer we all go down here every day to the beach and sit by the left of the pier cause we can hear the music and its only a 10 minute walk from stanley park, or the football ground, i always go on the walsters but ive never been on this cause im scared of heights :(

  • @ilufffunnystuff The park is lovely and a good zoo too.

Maybe this year you will go on this ?

  • @superneddy Mmm, yeah I live inbetween the football club and stanley park, and it takes me 10 minutes.....You just have to walk the right way, and the way I go, it takes me 10 minutes ^_^

  • @ilufffunnystuff You must be a super fast walker then as it takes at least 10 minutes to DRIVE from Stanley Park. And thats when its out of season in December and the roads are empty. Its 10 mins from Bloomfield Road though. Its at least a half hour walk to get to Central Pier from Stanley Park. I used to do it every other day when I lived 2 streets away from central pier in Foxhall Village to get to the park to see my girlfriend at the time.

  • i honestly dont like the look of thiss xxx The fact tht its not closed in or out and tht its on a pier above water makes me feel about nervy about this wheel xxx
