That reminds me of lone hyenas and packs of african wild dogs, the interaction is very similar. That's gotta be a young bachelor looking for a pack to join, spending the time alone and trying to steal some food from coyotes. I'd love to visit one of those places and see wild wolves.

There is a bit of a mass difference. Hyenas are about the same size as grey wolves, but African wild dogs are larger than coyotes, according to wikipedia. Wild dogs are around 2/3 - 3/4 the size of a hyena, coyotes are about 1/3 - 1/2 the size of a wolf. Chasing it and nipping at its tail for hours and wearing it out sounds like a good plan of attack for coyotes.
