The deaths of young employees, combined with the fact that the company says it has prevented some 30 suicides in the past 3 weeks, show the signs of a suicide cluster, and have the company so baffled it has brought in a Buddhist monk to purge the plants of evil spirits.

Critics point to more earthly factors that could be motivating the suicides: The well-educated young migrant workers who staff the factories crack under the demands of 15-hour workdays, 7 days a week, the Telegraph reports. Paid too poorly to be able to afford the products they build, the employees also tend to become socially isolated in vast factories where it is difficult for them to get to know their co-workers.

  • fuck Steve Jobs.

  • Why not use the money for the fence to pay the workers?

  • taken for inflation, the minimum wage is LESS now then it was in the 60s, in terms of output per worker we make double that as we did in 1968 but yet we have the largest disparity in income since the 1930s. The bottom 50% of Americans combined (155 million people or so) own just 2.5% of the wealth, while the top 1% own over 40%.

That doesnt sound like a hard bargain, sounds more like a white flag from Trumka, Hoffa and Mary Kay Henry

if you get the chance read The Civil War in US Labor

  • Bill, try to buy Fair Trade goods as much as possible, meaning the workers in the third world get paid what they would in America so they have great standards of living, and mostly work in cooperatives in Honduras or Angola, etc

the problem with labor isnt that they got "greedy" in the demands to management, Its that the leaders (because rank and file stopped voting and thus putting them in check) in many of 'em got cozy with management and sold out the workers couph...SEIU...cough..Teamsters

  • Don't worry, they built suicide nets around the Apple factories. Everything's fine now.

  • Actually they did it at the plant not to make a statement but because that is where they live.

  • Dam Straight Bill! These poor people don't deserve this simply because they live in a different country! Exploitation at its' worst.

  • 300 people threatened suicide yesterday at the same plant ...they all went up to the roof and had to be talked down from the towns mayor....

  • Here's an idea how about limiting any 1 persons fortune to $1billion. What the fuck does anyone need more than that for?

  • @williambrazzers The way he handled it, he's right but he was a total dick about it.
