Healthcare Bill Tea Party Protest Chicago 1-9-2010/Congressman Dan Lipinski's Office

Chicago Tea Patriots and other concerned citizens stand in sub zero weather for a tea party to protest government intervention into healthcare. Congressman Dan Lipinski needs to listen to the people in his district and vote against Obamacare. A majority of Americans do not like where this bill is going. Different views were expressed including pro-life, anti-abortion, veterans, and those opposed to tyranny, socialism, marxism, communism, republicans, don't tread on me.

@AtlasShruggery I completely agree with you about the Republicans. Lots of folks are running for office that are not from the establishment in either party - citizens want their government back. I know some great folks who are running for local office office and they are our future - regardless of what party they're affiliating themselves with. The 2 party system has failed us - that is the problem.

Republicans had 8 years - they did nothing. They're worried about spending money? How come they didn't protest the Iraq war which costs more pure MONTH than this bill will cost in a decade? No one should have to PAY to get healthy! If you truly believe that it's Socialist than I guess you're not for the police & fire departments, the schools, libraries, roads, bridges etc? Why not make it all capitalistic? The next time you have a fire call them up, get out your credit card and pay up!!

I agree, why didn't either party do anything? I belong to neither party and as a citizen journalist, I am observing citizens across Illinois voice their concerns. In talking to the protestors, I believe by 'socialism' they were referring to the redistributive taxation and the 'taking over' of the insurance industry (through price caps/regulation.) Basic community services were not mentioned by anyone I observed. Thanks for comments.

"Tea Party" is a Big Lie. It's not the simple 1700s. We now have millions of life-saving water-food-air-safety, police, military, etc. provided by "big governmetn" (We The People). During the real Tea Party there were no freeways, bridges nor school that allow real tax-paying patriots to work & contribute to the superior progress this nation has. I've never whined about paying taxes as without regulations many of us wouldn't be here. Due to Cheney's deregulations the Gulf is an oil pool."

it's scary how stupid these tea party "patriots" are and yet they actually think they understand what the word socialism means. Health care reform bill is NOT socialism. For it to be socialism, the government would have to own the means of production, which it doesn't. Also, "free market" arguments don't apply to health care. I am actually in favor of free market competition, but it cannot exist with health care as well as police, fire cuz the consumer CANNOT shop around for them. turn off fox.

As a Californian we only have the option of selecting less than 20 insurance companies. There are thousands of companies we cannot do business with because the government takes that right from us. Its sad to see all these laws and restrictions on what was once a great nation. George w obama sucks!
