http://www.youtube.com/TheGuysManual Grape-Nuts and ESPN's Kenny Mayne give you practical tips on how to train for your first foot race in this episode of The Guy's Manual.

KENNY MAYNE
Life can sometimes get stagnant. You gotta challenge yourself once in a while, shock the body every now and again. Within reason. You don't wanna
reminisce with friends while eating
through a plastic tube. I was thinking more like running your town's 10k road race. That's the spirit, Gary. But at
this point in life, it's fair to say those legs are more jello than jacked. No worries, these valuable nuggets of wisdom will help pave the way to the finish line. And that shiny silver blanket. Motivation will be key to climbing this mountain. So it'll probably help if you've got somebody else kicking you in the butt.
MILES
By the time I'm done with you, you'll eat lightening and crap thunder!
KENNY MAYNE
You're gonna wanna try to get out three times a week, for twenty to thirty minutes, and gradually increase your distance. If you can clock in at around an hour, you're doing great. There's no reason to attempt a new land speed record. Because you don't want this to
happen.
MILES
Mom, we're gonna need a ride back. Bring the wheelbarrow.
KENNY MAYNE
Training for a race has a completely different feel than running in a race.
GARY
How'd that look?
MILES
You came in too hot. Target your cup before you grab it.
KENNY MAYNE
Give yourself an added confidence boost by preparing for some race day incidentals. It's race day. The runners
surrounding you are like a vitamin-
B shot, you're caught up in the
energy, everything is going as well
as you could hope. Don't let your
competition shake you. Your race isn't with her, Gary. You're racing for yourself. Gary grits his teeth and nods in recognition.
GARY
You're an inspiration. Gary jogs on, sticking to his pace.
KENNY MAYNE
Way to step up to the challenge, Gary. You may just be ready for a half marathon. Maybe a heating pad. Until next time, enjoy being a man who gets the tough things done.
