the first scene, check the guy on the right standing smoking outside the door....looks like Neil Young to me...Neil compiled the soundtrack of classic rock and R&B tunes and played some instrumentals etc for the movie

Hunter disliked the film but respected and enjoyed Bill Murray's acting in it.

There's nothing "weak" about this film. That's just a bunch of mainstream media critical hogwash. It's a caricature piece of an an american literary icon, sure. But it's fucking funny, and a fine precursor to many character study films to follow, i.e.: American Splendor, etc.. Before it's time, I'd say.
