@monny287 I still think all the real doctors possessed enough common sense to understand that bleeding is bad.
Personally I think someone sent that quack to Washington's house. Washington had recently become a 33rd degree Mason--totally incompatible with his Christian faith. He did seem to go through a crisis of faith toward the end of his life. I think they were afraid he'd leave the lodge and sell them out, so they got him out of the way. He had ALL their secrets, after all.

Bloodletting slowly lost favor over the course of the 19th century, but the idea of "body balance" (which is what was trying to be acheived when taking out blood) in medicine persisted well after that. :)
