Author Joe Cronin discuses his book, "Reforming Boston Schools, 1930-2006: Overcoming Corruption and Racial Segregation" on February 24, 2009 as part of Northeastern University Libraries' Meet the Author Series. The Boston Public Schools have a long and complicated history, including segregation, racial violence, corruption, and job-selling. Owing to much reform, Bostons schools received the 2006 Eli Broad Prize for the Most Improved Urban School System in America. Joe Cronin, a past professor and dean at Harvard and Lesley Universities and former President of Bentley College, was the first Massachusetts Secretary of Education. In "Reforming Boston Schools," Cronin discusses the overhaul of Boston schools, the resulting challenges, and the outstanding results as a new refined school system emerged. Sponsored by the NU Libraries, the NU Department of Political Science and the NU Bookstore.
